Bernina New Generation Feet
Bernina have different generations of feet.
Currently there are two generations which we refer to as the old generation and the new generation.
The difference in the feet is at the top of the presser foot - one appears to have two prongs (open shank) and one appears as a solid block (closed shank).
In addition, the new generation of feet (closed shank) are divided into three types.
The have the standard 5.5mm presser feet and then the "C" feet and "D" feet.
The letter "C" stands for coded presser foot and refers to the sensor that specifies the stitch width to the sewing machine. These feet are for Bernina sewing and embroidery machines with a maximum stitch width of 9mm. The soles are longer and wider than on the 5.5mm presser foot.
The letter "D" stands for Dual Feed. "D" feet are used with the Bernina Dual Feed System. The sole therefore has a recess at the back for the Dual Feed with a maximum stitch width of 9mm. The sole is reinforced with two shanks.
